Installing WayPoints Mod on Forge
Forge is the classic Minecraft mod loader and the usual choice for many 1.20.x builds. This guide shows you how to install Forge and add WayPoints Mod cleanly, even if you have never installed a mod before.
Before you start
Run vanilla Minecraft once for your target version so the files are generated. Note your exact version, and make a backup of your world folder. Then grab the WayPoints Mod file from the download section.
Step 1: Install Forge
- Download the Forge installer that matches your Minecraft version from the official Forge site.
- Run the installer and choose Install client.
- Open the Minecraft Launcher — a new Forge profile will appear.
- Select the Forge profile and launch once to confirm it works.
Step 2: Find your mods folder
Open the .minecraft directory. On Windows, type %appdata%\.minecraft into the address bar.
On macOS it is in ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft. Create a mods folder if one does not
exist.
Step 3: Add WayPoints Mod
Move the WayPoints Mod .jar into the mods folder. Make sure the build matches your Minecraft
version — this is the most common mistake.
One version, one loader: keep only the file that matches your setup. Mixing builds from different versions is a frequent cause of crashes.
Step 4: Launch and test
Start the game with the Forge profile. Load a world, open the waypoint menu, and add a marker. If it appears on the HUD, you are done.
Troubleshooting
If the mod does not show up, re-check the version match and confirm you launched the Forge profile rather than vanilla. For crash logs and deeper fixes, see the common errors guide. On newer versions you may need NeoForge instead — follow the NeoForge setup guide.
